KEARNEY — The metal band Disturbed started its concert Wednesday night with lead singer David Draiman wheeled on stage riding on an odd-looking dolly.
As the band broke into its first song, the crowd at the FirsTier Event Center surged toward the stage, fists pumping the air.
The Chicago rock band spent the next 90 minutes performing songs from their albums “The Sickness,” “Believe,” “Ten Thousand Fists” and “Indestructible.”
In an interview before the show, guitarist Dan Donegan said of performing, “That’s where our passion is — on the stage. The constant touring and being on stage has helped build this organic growth and this fan base.”
During a break in the show, Draiman made a vow to the audience of more then 3,200 fans.
“I promise you this,” he said standing under the image of The Guy, the band’s smiling demon mascot. “You’ll leave this building feeling stronger than when you came in.”
The show opened with sets by the Canadian band Art of Dying and Egypt Central from Memphis, Tenn. The closing song by Egypt Central, “You Make Me Sick,” featured a duet with the band’s vocalist, John Falls, and Johnny Hetherington, the vocalist from Art of Dying.
Crowd reactions
“The show is pretty awesome. What’s not to like about Disturbed? I’ve been a listener for years, and I came from Lincoln 129 miles for this show.” — David Lewis of Lincoln
“Ilove it. It’s good. It’s fun. A concert like this is a good time. You hear them on the radio, and then when you see them live it really hits home.” — Tancy Loomis of Elm Creek
“Iwant Egypt Central and Art of Dying to come back again. Their music rocks.” — Marci Hopp of Kearney
“The whole concert rocks. This is probably the best show to come to Kearney so far. Someday I’d like to see them bring Saliva to play here.” — Joe Gregory of Ansley
